Overview

FolAAC is an offline, privacy-first AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. This privacy policy explains what data exists on your device and how it is handled.

Data We Do NOT Collect

FolAAC does not collect, transmit, or have access to:

• Names, email addresses, or any personally identifiable information
• Location data
• Usage analytics or behavioral data
• Crash reports sent to third-party servers
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA or similar)
• Any data from children or adults using the app

There are no third-party SDKs, analytics frameworks, or advertising networks integrated into FolAAC.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All data created within FolAAC stays exclusively on your device. This includes:

Vocabulary & Settings

• Communication boards, categories, and button labels
• User profiles and preferences (grid size, button shape, speech rate)
• App settings and configuration

Media Files

• Photos added to buttons (from your camera or photo library)
• Custom audio recordings made within the app

All of this data is stored in the app's private sandboxed storage on your device (SQLite database and Documents directory). It is never transmitted anywhere.

Caregiver PIN
The caregiver PIN is stored in the iOS Keychain — Apple's encrypted, device-only secure storage. It is never transmitted or accessible outside the device.

Export Archives

FolAAC allows you to export your data as a .folaac archive file for backup or transfer purposes. This file contains all of your vocabulary, media, and settings. You control how and where you share this file — FolAAC does not automatically send it anywhere. Treat export files as personal documents and share them only with trusted parties.

Camera and Microphone Access

FolAAC may request access to:

• Camera — to take photos for button images (used only when you explicitly add a photo)
• Microphone — to record custom audio for buttons (used only when you explicitly start a recording)
• Photo Library — to select existing photos for button images

These permissions are used solely within the app for the stated purposes. No media is transmitted or stored outside your device.

Children's Privacy

FolAAC is designed for use by children with communication needs, operated under the supervision of a parent, caregiver, or therapist. Because we collect no data whatsoever, the app is inherently compliant with children's privacy laws including COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and GDPR-K.

Internet Connection

FolAAC is fully offline. The app does not require or use an internet connection at any time. No network requests are made.

Third-Party Services

FolAAC does not integrate with any third-party services. There are no:

• Analytics providers (e.g. Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude)
• Advertising networks
• Crash reporting services (e.g. Crashlytics, Sentry)
• Cloud storage or sync services
• Social login or authentication providers

Data Retention and Deletion

All app data resides on your device. To delete all data associated with FolAAC, simply delete the app from your device. iOS will remove the app's sandboxed storage, including the database, all media files, and the Keychain entry.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the new version will be made available at the same URL and the "Last updated" date at the top will be revised. Because FolAAC collects no data, changes to this policy are unlikely to affect you in any meaningful way.
